About Us

The Summit is a forum that ABU established in June 2014 in Jakarta as a platform to bring together all parties in the Climate Action and DRR processes and link them to media for disseminating information and good practices to wide audiences. At the same time, it introduces ABU members and other media professionals from across the world to the complex process of climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness.

The forum brings together media, government agencies responsible for disaster management and disaster risk reduction, international organisations, NGOs and community leaders. It explores how to use the unparalleled audience reach of media to build knowledgeable communities able to understand the negative impacts of climate change. Up for discussion are media challenges in reporting on climate change and media solutions to adapt to those changes through the media.

The ABU Together for Planet, People, Peace Media Awards are attached to the Summit. This competition aims to honour and recognize the outstanding contributions of media entities that have demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing the principles of sustainability, social justice, and peace through their programmes. Its popularity among ABU members and beyond is steadily growing with the third Awards in Bali attracting record 122 entries from 33 countries.

Red Slender Loris

Red Slender Loris (Loris tardigradus) Mascot for CADP-2025

Conservation Status: Endangered (IUCN Red List)

Endemic to: Sri Lanka
Habitat: Lowland rainforests in the south-western wet zone of Sri Lanka (e.g., Sinharaja, Kanneliya, and surrounding areas)

Ecological and Climate Sensitivity
  • The Red Slender Loris is highly dependent on stable, humid rainforest ecosystems.
  • Extremely sensitive to fluctuations in temperature and humidity, and particularly vulnerable to forest fragmentation.
  • Climate change poses a significant threat through altered rainfall patterns and prolonged dry spells, affecting both habitat stability and food availability.
Additional Threats
  • Habitat destruction due to deforestation, human encroachment, and infrastructure development (e.g., roads) continues to endanger the species.
  • Its decreasing population trend underscores the urgent need for conservation.
Physical Characteristics
  • Weight: 100–170 grams
  • Length (Head & Body): 18–21 cm
  • Diet: Carnivorous
  • Geographic Range: Exclusively found in Sri Lanka
Rationale for Mascot Selection

The Red Slender Loris embodies the central themes of CADP-2025: climate sensitivity, environmental protection, and regional biodiversity. As a visually distinctive, culturally significant, and endangered species, it offers strong potential for animated representation and international awareness-building.
