In parallel with the upcoming Climate Action and Disaster Prevention (CADP) Summit 2025 in November,Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) has launched a nationwide public awareness campaign to educate citizens on climate action and disaster mitigation. The campaign features a wide range of activities, including pre- and post-summit television programs, island-wide school art and speech competitions, a short film festival, and an Electric Vehicle (EV) parade. The pre-summit TV programs in Sinhala medium will commence on 9th October and will be telecast every Thursday at 10:00 p.m. on Rupavahini. Meanwhile, an English medium panel discussion series will begin on 10th October on Channel Eye, and Nethra TV will air Tamil medium programs weekly, ensuring inclusivity across all major language audiences. Experts from government institutions engaged in disaster management and climate action, UN specialists, academics, and representatives from international organizations in the field will serve as resource persons for these programs, offering diverse perspectives and expert insights. The “Clean Sri Lanka Project” is also a major contributor to these television programs, strengthening the message of collective action for a cleaner and greener nation. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, SLRC has organized island-wide school art and speech competitions to inspire youth engagement in climate-related issues. Additionally, the short film festival, titled “Pivithuru Haritha Hetak” (“A Cleaner & Greener Tomorrow”), is open to all Sri Lankans, encouraging creative storytelling around environmental sustainability. Adding further momentum to the initiative, SLRC will host an Electric Vehicle Parade on 23rd November, promoting the use of sustainable energy and supporting Sri Lanka’s national climate action goals. This campaign underscores SLRC’s commitment to creating a cleaner, greener, safer, and more resilient Sri Lanka through media-driven public education and engagement.
