Upcoming CADP Summit in Colombo to Boost Sri Lanka’s Image as a Sustainable Tourism Hub

Climate Action Awards

The upcoming Climate Action and Disaster Preparedness (CADP) Summit 2025, to be held in Colombo, is expected to deliver a significant boost to Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, positioning the country as a sustainable and eco-friendly tourism hub in the Asia-Pacific region. The summit, hosted by Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and organized by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)—the world’s largest broadcasting organization—will bring together influential media networks and professionals from across the region. ABU serves over half of the world’s population and represents 250 member organizations across 70 countries, including leading broadcasters such as NHK (Japan), CCTV (China), ABC (Australia), RTM (Malaysia), and TRT (Turkey). More than 35 media organizations from the Asia-Pacific region are expected to participate in the Colombo Summit, making it a unique platform that unites media professionals, policymakers, UN agencies, regional bodies, government institutions, NGOs, and academia under one roof. The ABU also maintains strong ties with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), ensuring extensive global visibility. Coverage of the event by leading Asia-Pacific journalists will provide Sri Lanka with an exceptional opportunity to showcase its culture, natural beauty, and resilience to millions of viewers worldwide—further enhancing its reputation as a destination committed to sustainability and responsible tourism. Emphasizing environmental sustainability and disaster resilience, CADP-2025 aligns perfectly with Sri Lanka’s national vision for eco-conscious and culturally enriched tourism development. As part of the official summit agenda, an excursion will be organized for international delegates, allowing them to explore the island’s cultural diversity, heritage sites, and natural landscapes—offering firsthand experiences that will inspire their future media coverage on Sri Lanka. The CADP Summit 2025 thus stands not only as a global & regional dialogue on climate and disaster preparedness but also as a powerful opportunity to promote Sri Lanka as a leading destination for sustainable and culturally vibrant tourism.
